Jag är en annan nu

Animated tableaus

Plot:
"Jag är en annan nu" (I am someone else now) by Björn Runge is a play about Claire, portrayed by Ann Petrén, and her daughter Miriam (Sofia Ledarp/Frida Westerberg). Miriam is undergoing cancer treatment and trying to reach her mother while coping with her dramatically changed life situation. However, Claire is mostly preoccupied with herself and the aftermath of a hip replacement surgery. We witness their often unsuccessful attempts to connect with each other and observe how Claire becomes increasingly energetic, while Miriam seems to weaken and be increasingly affected by her illness.

Idea:
To create animated tableaus that where screened between the different scenes. The theme revolved around internal and external processes, alternating between motifs such as space, medical screening, and abstractions of cell divisions and tissues. The tableaus were intended to serve as a form of contemplation over the time that had passed between Claire and Miriam's encounters.

Process:
I collaborated with set designer Annika Bromberg to create drafts for the projections. I utilized a combination of fluids, pigments, digital animations, and filmed material to bring the different characters of the tableaus to life. The visuals were recurrently tested during the repetitions, using VDMX, which allowed us to experiment with different ideas and seamlessly integrate the projections with the events on stage. The projection surface consisted of a black curtain hanging in two layers at the rear of the stage.

Techniques:
