Vänd oss inte ryggen

Plot:
"Vänd oss inte ryggen" (Do not turn your back on us) is a short documentary based on interviews with parents of young people active in right-wing extremist groups. They share their feelings of guilt and sorrow, but also of the hope for change. The interviewees and the situations described are portrayed by actors and then animated, both for the purpose of anonymizing and as an artistic expression.

Idea:
To create a style that gives the filmed interviews an animated expression, and to direct and animate the dramatized events shown in the film, as well as creating images for the storyboard and the initial edit.

Process:
The interviews were filmed against a green screen. The footage was then reduced in frame rate and processed using various filters in VDMX and After Effects to achieve an animated effect. The dramatized events were also staged and filmed in front of a green screen to allow for the extraction of character outlines. These outlines were then composed and animated as 3D layers on top of photographs and filmed backgrounds in After Effects, enabling virtual animation of camera movements.
